What is Chinese kickboxing ?

Chinese kickboxing is called Sanshou or Sanda (full contact) or Qinda (light contact) and is a modern unarmed combat sport that developed from traditional wushu techniques, and primarily makes use of boxing, kicking, throwing, takedowns wrestling and defensive techniques. Here is a description of Sanda by our world governing body – http://www.iwuf.org/sport-wushu/sanda/

What is learnt in a class ?

First we warm up, which is usually a mixture of fitness training and basic kickboxing techniques, followed by dynamic stretching. Then the class consists of punching and boxing skills, kicking and sweeping techniques, throws and takedowns, defence and evasion, then sparring when experienced enough in basic techniques.

Who can attend classes ?

Classes in and around Canterbury are open to everyone, any age from 5-50, any gender, and any level, if you want to do for competition or just for fun and self-defence that’s fine. Please see our timetable.

What are the benefits ?

As kickboxing is a fighting art and sport there is an emphasis on discipline and respect, it will improve your focus and concentration, make you stronger, fitter and will reduce stress levels, whilst it being fun.

What happens at a competition ?

Competition bouts comprise of 3 rounds in total, each lasting two minutes with a one-minute rest period between rounds. The full-contact bouts are free flowing and exciting, and athletes are awarded points by the sideline judges for successfully executed techniques based on the scoring criteria.
